If you’re looking for a dining experience that’s a little different to your usual meal out, why not try our Garden Room Restaurant in Worcester? Not only can you enjoy a delicious meal, but you can also take in live music performances from our resident pianist while you dine. It’s the perfect way to add a little extra atmosphere to your dining experience.
Our resident pianist, Peter Davey, performs every Friday and Saturday night, during Sunday Lunch and also on selected midweek evenings (please check when booking).
Peter’s performances have already been extremely popular with diners, so we caught up with him recently to find out a little more about his background and how you can enjoy your dining experience with us.
When did you start playing the piano?
I was seven years old when I first played. The headmaster at my infant school said I had piano players fingers, and we had a piano at home. I enjoyed it so much, I ended up learning at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, so I’m classically trained.
Do you have a favourite pianist or composer?
I like many pianists and composers, although I don’t always like everything they play or compose. When I really started getting into playing the piano, it was really at the beginning of Rock ‘n’ Roll era and Jerry Lee Lewis was the master. I’m an old rocker at heart!
What is your favourite style of music to play?
I love playing the music that I generally play at the Bank House, so easy listening, non-intrusive tunes. I take great joy in enhancing people’s dining experience.
Do you have a favourite song to play?
It changes so often but at the moment, I’m really enjoying playing ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra. I’m always looking for a melody and something will stick in my mind. When it does, I tend to play for a few days until I hear something else. I have a large stock of tunes that I dip in and out of though so who knows what my next favourite might be.
What do you enjoy about playing at the Bank House?
I enjoy everything about playing at the Bank House. The whole team are great and the piano in the Garden Room Restaurant is beautiful. As I said earlier, I really enjoy creating a good atmosphere for people and playing what I think they’ll enjoy.
What advice would you give to aspiring pianists?
Enjoy it and never give up! It has taken me 62 years to become a professional pianist and I’m loving every minute. I will always be grateful to Adam and Mark for giving me the chance to do what I love. I’m genuinely living my dream!
What’s your most unusual song request?
Probably Little Donkey at Christmas. I love getting requests from people though and I never judge. Everyone has different tastes and that’s what makes music so amazing. So, when you’re next dining here, feel free to come over and ask for your favourite song and if I know it, I’ll happily play it.
Join us at our Garden Room Restaurant for a romantic night out, a fun evening with friends or family, or a relaxing Sunday Lunch with some entertainment. Peter performs every weekend – on Friday and Saturday evenings and during Sunday Lunch – as well as on selected weekdays, but please check before booking.
