Our experts at Bank House share their top tips for the perfect at-home manicure
If you have visited our hotel and enjoyed a treatment or two at one of the finest spas in Worcestershire, you will know our luxury manicures and pedicures are some of the best around, so we have decided to put together seven steps to nailing that at-home manicure if you don’t have time to get to the salon this week.
Step 1
Before you begin your manicure, be sure to give your nails a good rub with polish remover to get rid of not only the remnants of last week’s colour but the oils and dirt that will prevent your new shade from sticking properly.
Step 2
Next, you will want to shape your nail. Make sure you file in one direction to the centre on each side with an arching action, not straight from left to right as this can damage or break the nail. Use a crystal file on weaker nails to protect them from damage.
Step 3
Once you are happy with the shape of your nail, use a base coat to prime them. Not only does this prevent discoloration but it also helps the colour adhere to the nail for longer lasting nail perfection.
Step 4
Now for the trickiest bit: applying the polish. Paint your chosen hue in thin layers, making sure to wait at least a minute between coats.
Step 5
To fix any unwanted mistakes, Insert a wooden stick into a cotton pad, with a twisting motion create a ball of cotton wool at the end of the wooden stick. This can then be dipped into nail polish remover to effortlessly wipe away polish from the cuticle or from around the nail bed. A cotton wool bud works just as well.
Step 6
If you are happy with your paint job, you can now seal the deal with a top coat of your choice. We would recommend using Temple Spa’s Sorrento for a glossy and durable finish.
Step 7
Once you have completed your at-home manicure, make sure to avoid harsh chemicals used in cleaning products by using gloves to do the washing up or cleaning the kitchen to avoid smudging, chipping or denting all your hard work.
