It’s that time again, and even though she celebrates it twice a year, it’s the biggest birthday bash to befall Buckingham Palace.
On the 10th June, Great Britain will be bringing their best biscuits and clinking their cups of tea for the Queen’s official 91st birthday, and the team here at our Worcester hotel are here to help you pull off the ultimate royal party!
Although the sovereign’s official birthday is celebrated in June, Queen Elizabeth II’s actual birthday falls on the 21st April. So why does she have two birthdays? Monarchs are traditionally given a second chance to celebrate in the summer months, so there is more chance of the sun shining whilst we Brits party in the streets.
Let’s face it, Britain is built on outdoor street parties and neighbourly feasts. The backbone of this country is held together with red and white picnic blankets, clotted cream and jam. Tea flows through our veins. The great people of this little land have an ancestral taste for vintage outdoor celebrations and we expect there will be a lot of demand to organise a few events this June – so we are here to help!
If you are planning a right royal celebration, follow these hints and tips to help you plan ahead of the big day…
Outside is Officially Fun
For an official street party, your local council will be keen to work with communities to help them lay on their celebrations, but we do advise people to get in touch as early as possible so they can get help with the organisation of your particular event. Where locations are approved, the Council will provide organisers with required traffic signs for use on the day of celebrations to divert traffic away from the festivities.
Knock for Your Neighbours
If you are planning a street party, don’t forget to invite your neighbours. Or at least inform them. Make everyone aware of the plans and hopefully they will also help out with the arrangements. If you fancy a more royal decree, then why not produce some flyers? And for those households with frosty feuds within the local neighbourhood – remember, this is a time of jubilee and of coming together, so do away with any tensions and bring your best biscuits and clink your cups of tea in celebration of our Sovereignty.
A Feast Fit For a Queen
We Brits know you can never go wrong with a spot of afternoon tea. We love it. Once an everyday British tradition, it has become more of a luxury – and a must for any royal party. Stacked high upon silver tiers, you’ll find tiny crust-less triangles with an array of scrumptious fillings, reminiscent of children’s school lunch boxes and summertime picnics. Afternoon tea wouldn’t be complete without a sweet treat or two, and scones laden with delicious clotted cream and strawberry jam are only made better with a heavenly cup of tea (or champagne!) to wash it all down with- it simply doesn’t get any more British than that!
Using the tips and treats from the team here at our Worcester hotel, your June 10th will be full of festivities and feasts. Great Britain will be dancing and cheering for Her Majesty the Queen’s official 91st birthday and we will be right there with you.
So, enjoy your weekend of parties and puddings, but if you were thinking of getting away to celebrate the weekend somewhere with relaxing spa treatments and afternoons indulging in one of the best teas in Worcester, then we will welcome you with a royal entrance to our Worcester hotel.
